Her Story Finally Unveiled After Being Abducted by a Serial Killer in ’81

Margy Palm shares her extraordinary story of friendship with a serial killer, who had the intention of killing her. Palm, now 72 years old and residing in San Antonio, recounts her experience in a detailed interview with Julie Miller for Vanity Fair. The incident occurred on December 11, 1981, when she was abducted by Stephen Morin from a Kmart parking lot in San Antonio. Morin, a 30-year-old man under the influence of amphetamines and feeling trapped by authorities, had already shot and killed one woman earlier that day. He was suspected of torturing and murdering more than 30 women in multiple states. Despite Morin’s threats and derogatory remarks towards Palm, she made a courageous choice to not fear him, but to pray for him, even going so far as to place her hand on his forehead to drive out evil spirits.

Palm believed that God had a purpose for her in that situation, and as the hours passed, Morin’s demeanor softened. He apologized to God, and in a surprising turn of events, he removed the bullets from his gun and placed them in Palm’s purse (although he still had other bullets in his pocket). Palm shared information about a televangelist based in Fort Worth, which led Morin to decide to look for him. Palm dropped him off at a bus station so he could take a bus to Fort Worth. Before saying their goodbyes, Morin expressed affection towards Palm by hugging and kissing her. The remarkable story unravels the story of Morin’s capture en route to Fort Worth, the development of the friendship between Palm and Morin during his time on death row (he was executed in 1985), and the reasons why Palm kept her story hidden until now, despite receiving offers from Hollywood producers, agents, and popular TV shows.
