Once known as the Conservatory of Divine Providence, Palazzo Ripetta is a stunning 17th-century palazzo located on Via Ripetta in Rome. Situated on the western border of Rome’s famous Tridente precinct, this palazzo was originally a convent overseen by the Sisters of Santa Dorotea. The Sisters provided shelter and education for unmarried or orphaned girls and young women. Over time, the Conservatory expanded its curriculum to include various disciplines such as tailoring, music, gymnastics, and the fine arts. In the 1950s, the Conservatory moved to Trastevere, and the palazzo underwent renovation to become a luxury residence, a four-star hotel, and conference center.

Recently, the Crisci family, descendants of the palazzo’s original owners, collaborated with Fausta Gaetani, the renowned interior designer responsible for the exquisite interiors at Le Sirenuse and Il San Pietro, to undertake another renovation. The result is a harmonious blend of modern and contemporary artworks, including pieces by renowned artists such as Andy Warhol and Angel Ortiz, combined with stunning Art Deco details from the early 20th century. The palazzo’s chapel, added in the early 18th century, now serves as a grand meeting and events space, adorned with original frescoes by Giacomo Triga and a marble bust of Pope Innocent XI.

Each room and suite in Palazzo Ripetta offers a unique and spacious setting with high ceilings and large windows. Some suites even feature hydro pools, steam-sauna showers, and sun-saturated balconies. The interiors, designed by Fausta Gaetani, incorporate vibrant colors, inspired by Suzani textiles and Art Deco elements. The artworks in the rooms range from classical 18th-century prints to contemporary lithographs. The bathrooms, while simple yet comfortable, boast marble and glass fixtures and amenities from Ortigia, known for their fragrant and luxurious products.

When it comes to dining, the standout restaurant is San Baylon, with its own entrance at Via Ripetta 232. Designed by local architect Roberto Liorni, the interiors of San Baylon exude warmth and charm, combining traditional Roman aesthetics with a contemporary twist. Chef Marco Ciccotelli expertly crafts a menu that artfully blends refined presentation with comforting, classic dishes. From handmade bottoncini filled with fresh mozzarella di bufala on a bed of sweet minced raw tomatoes to the exquisite vitello tonnato topped with Sicilian capers, every bite is a delight. The dessert menu, created by pastry chef Giuseppe Solfrizzi from Le Levain, pays homage to the restaurant’s namesake, featuring an airy zabaglione.

Palazzo Ripetta is ideally situated for anyone looking to experience the best of Rome. Its prime location provides easy access to Via del Corso and Via del Babuino, two of Rome’s premier shopping destinations. However, if you’re in search of a more unique and offbeat atmosphere, Palazzo Ripetta, at just 10 months old, is still developing its own distinct personality.

Don’t miss the chance to explore the Baylon bar, where the menu is a collaboration with the Jerry Thomas Project, named one of the world’s 50 best bars.
