Gunman fires 50 shots resulting in the deaths of 5, including a child

Tragedy struck Philadelphia on Monday night as five individuals, including a 15-year-old boy, lost their lives in a mass shooting.

Shortly after 8 p.m., a man equipped with multiple firearms and wearing a bulletproof vest opened fire, firing dozens of shots.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw informed reporters that officers, responding to emergency calls, discovered multiple victims lying on the ground in the Kingsessing neighborhood of the city, according to local ABC affiliate WPVI.

During the incident, police officers heard additional gunshots, totaling more than 50, and pursued the shooter on foot. They ultimately apprehended him in a nearby alley.

“The suspect was wearing a bulletproof vest and was armed with an AR-style rifle, a handgun, and a police scanner,” Outlaw stated.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Kimbrady Carriker, a Kingsessing resident.

One of the deceased victims was found inside a home in the southwest Philadelphia neighborhood.

Two children, aged 2 and 13, were also injured and taken to a local hospital where they are in stable condition.

In a statement given to Insider, the Philadelphia Police Department reported that a total of six individuals were transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where four were pronounced dead.

The fifth victim was discovered in their home approximately four hours after the initial reports of gunfire. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.

The confirmed victims, according to the police, are:

  • Lashyd Merrit, 20, shot multiple times in the chest and arm
  • Dymir Stanton, 29, shot in the chest and back
  • Ralph Moralis, 59, shot in the head, side, and buttocks
  • Daujan Brown, 15, shot in the shoulder, chest, and back
  • Joseph Wamah, Jr., 31, shot multiple times

Another shooting took place in Fort Worth, Texas, on Monday night, resulting in three fatalities and eight injuries. The Fort Worth Police Department stated that among the victims, ten were adults and one was a minor.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains undetermined, according to CNN.

These incidents occurred a year after a gunman opened fire during a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, killing seven individuals and injuring many others.
