Group alleges Kellogg’s workplace diversity programs are illegal

A prominent conservative legal organization has called for an investigation into Kellogg Co’s workplace diversity policies and accused the company of sexualizing its products. America First Legal, headed by former Trump advisor Stephen Miller, filed a complaint with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) claiming that Kellogg’s practices violate federal laws against workplace bias. The group specifically criticized the company’s hiring, training, and promotion practices, which they allege are aimed at achieving a specific racial and gender balance. They also took issue with Kellogg’s marketing campaigns, including those featuring drag queen RuPaul and LGBTQ Pride Month-themed cereal boxes. America First Legal argues that these actions go against the company’s previously family-friendly approach. Legal experts anticipate an increase in legal challenges to corporate diversity programs in light of a recent US Supreme Court ruling that prohibits race-conscious admissions policies in higher education. Kellogg has yet to respond to the complaint. America First Legal has also threatened shareholder litigation against the company. This complaint is part of a broader effort by conservative legal groups and Republican lawmakers to combat what they call “woke policies” by corporations regarding social issues such as race, gender, and diversity. In a separate case, America First Legal has filed a lawsuit against Target Corp on behalf of an investor, alleging that the company’s LGBTQ-themed merchandise caused customer backlash and harmed its stock value.
