Grand Opening of Hey Chef in Former TJ’s Cafe Building in Colonie Takes Place Today

Colonie, a thriving neighborhood in New York, welcomes its newest addition to the culinary scene. Restaurateur Ruby Liu, known for her successful venture Tengu Asian Bistro, has now unveiled her latest creation, Hey Chef. Located at 1133 Central Ave, the restaurant occupies a familiar A-frame building that was once home to TJ’s Cafe for 25 years.

While Tengu Asian Bistro offers an extensive menu with a strong focus on sushi and Japanese cuisine, Hey Chef takes a slightly different approach. With a smaller yet carefully curated menu, Hey Chef showcases pan-Asian flavors through rice and noodle bowls, noodle soups, and a selection of three seafood entrees.

Hey Chef presents a delightful dining experience with plates and bowls priced at an average of $15 for dinner and $10 for lunch. The restaurant also boasts a full bar, featuring a small but impressive selection of beer, wine, and 11 house cocktails, predominantly of the sweet variety.

Exciting news for food enthusiasts is that Hey Chef is officially open for business. Operating hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, extending until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and offering delectable brunch options from noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays. For inquiries and reservations, please contact Hey Chef at 518-650-1133. Please note that Hey Chef’s website and Facebook page will be coming online soon.

To commemorate the grand opening, Hey Chef is offering remarkable specials. Guests can enjoy $2 Miller Lite drafts, $3 Yuengling, and $4 wines. Additionally, there is an incredible deal on a pound of snow crab legs priced at $19.95, a $10 discount from the regular price.

It is worth mentioning that Liu’s purchase of the property, which included the restaurant and a multi-unit apartment building, was successfully completed last August. The transaction, facilitated by Philip Sabatino of Hanna Commercial Real Estate, was finalized for $900,000. Philip’s father, Anthony Sabatino, also from Hanna, represented Todd Leach, the previous owner of TJ’s.

Colonie’s residents and visitors can now savor the flavors of Hey Chef’s pan-Asian cuisine, creating unforgettable moments in this new hotspot. Don’t miss out on this exciting addition to Central Avenue’s culinary landscape.
