‘Gran Turismo’ races ahead to claim top spot at the box office

The movie “Gran Turismo” has surged ahead of its competition at the box office, raking in a whopping $8.5 million on its first Friday after release, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.

Based on the popular video game series, this car-racing drama tells the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a teenage Gran Turismo player who went on to become a professional race car driver. While CNN criticized the film for its slow pace, it has clearly captivated audiences and proven its monetary success.

In second place at the box office is “Barbie,” which has officially become the highest-grossing movie of the year in North America, earning $4 million in sales. Trailing behind is “Blue Beetle” in third place, with earnings of $2.6 million.

Unfortunately for “Blue Beetle,” it is expected to experience a significant 61% drop in its second weekend in theaters, according to Screenrant. This decline contrasts with the success of “Gran Turismo” and “Barbie,” which continue to dominate the box office.

“Oppenheimer” maintains its fourth position, bringing in $2.25 million. Director Christopher Nolan’s World War II biopic has become his third highest-earning movie domestically, as reported by Collider.
