Graham: Turkey’s Transformation into NATO’s New ‘Squad’ Revealed

South Carolina Senator (R) said that Turkey is becoming the “The Squad” of NATO in his comments on Saturday. This refers to an informal group of House Democrats.

“Seems that Turkey, especially its senior leadership, is positioning itself to be the equivalent of ‘The Squad’ within NATO,” Graham stated in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “It’s very disappointing and destabilizing.”

Graham’s post also included a link to a Fox News article regarding recent comments made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan about the Israel-Hamas conflict.

“Israel has been openly committing war crimes for 22 days, but Western leaders cannot even call for a cease-fire, let alone react to it,” Erdogan told a crowd in Istanbul on Saturday, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).

“We will inform the entire world that Israel is a war criminal,” he added. “We are making preparations for this. We will declare Israel a war criminal.”

In response to Erdoğan’s comments, Israel is recalling its diplomats from Turkey.

“Given the concerning statements from Turkey, I have instructed our diplomatic representatives there to return for a reevaluation of the relationship between Israel and Turkey,” said Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen in a post on X.

Graham’s post seems to mock the group of progressive lawmakers, including Representatives Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cori Bush, Jamal Bowman, and Ayanna Pressley, who have recently expressed pro-Palestinian views on the Israel-Hamas conflict.

“Two million people. Half of them children. Starved. Bombed. Cut off from communication,” Ocasio-Cortez posted on X Saturday, apparently referring to the current situation in the Gaza Strip. “Have those allowing this to happen considered the future consequences? No. Some may dismiss a ceasefire as naïve or worse. Yet who has a plan for the aftermath of this destruction? What do we call that?”
