GOP Leaders Advocate to Safeguard Gun Owners and Halt Biden’s Potential Gun Violence Health Emergency

In an exclusive report, Fox News reveals that Senator Mike Braun and fourteen other GOP leaders have introduced a new bill called the Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act of 2023. This bill aims to prevent the White House from declaring gun violence a national health emergency in order to enact strict gun control measures.

The introduction of this bill comes in response to Democratic New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s recent attempt to impose a 30-day prohibition on carrying guns in public areas and state-owned properties in Albuquerque. Governor Grisham justified this action by referring to gun violence as a public health crisis.

Senator Braun issued a statement emphasizing the need to address the abuse of public health emergencies for imposing gun control measures. He expressed concern over the expansion of executive power witnessed during the COVID pandemic and cited Governor Grisham’s use of a public health emergency to restrict Second Amendment rights in her state.

Braun stated, “It is essential that we establish legislation that protects our right to self-defense and ensures that the stroke of a pen cannot strip away this fundamental right for ourselves and our families.”

This legislation is expected to gain significant support within the GOP-led House. Rep. Michael Cloud has also introduced a bill with the same name in response to Governor Grisham’s gun ban. Rep. Pete Sessions and Rep. Mary Miller are cosponsors of Cloud’s bill, joining the chorus of critics against Grisham’s move to restrict gun rights.

A judge has already blocked Governor Grisham’s 30-day gun ban, leading her to modify the rule to apply only to public parks and playgrounds where there is a high risk for children and families, according to ABC.
