Google reaches a potential settlement on app-related antitrust allegations – Make your app world brighter

Google parent company Alphabet has reached a tentative settlement in a class-action lawsuit accusing its Play Store of violating federal antitrust rules by overcharging customers. The suit, filed by attorneys general in 36 states representing 21 million consumers, alleged that Google had a monopoly over the Android app distribution and in-app purchases market, with a market share exceeding 90%. The proposed settlement details were not disclosed in the court filing, and a trial scheduled for November 6 has been requested to be canceled. The judge is expected to determine the approval of the settlement during a status conference on October 12. If the settlement is rejected, the parties will return to litigation. The lawsuit against Google’s Play Store comes as the tech giant faces a separate antitrust suit related to its alleged monopoly over online search.
