Golf Course in Jurupa Hills Faces Brush Fire Outbreaks

On Wednesday, two brush fires ignited near a golf course in Jurupa Hills, burning 25 acres of hillside as firefighting crews worked to contain them.

The fires were first reported after 2 p.m. in the vicinity of the Oak Quarry Golf Club, near Sierra Avenue and Armstrong Road, as confirmed by the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency dispatched multiple engine crews to the location, who faced rapidly spreading flames moving upslope. Fortunately, no homes or other structures were immediately threatened.

The fires occurred on the border between Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The smaller of the two fires, approximately five acres in size, was actually within San Bernardino County by 2:25 p.m. Fire crews from Cal Fire San Bernardino County were actively fighting this particular fire.

The larger blaze, estimated to be around 20 acres, was situated in Riverside County.

Firefighters requested the assistance of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies to close the north end of Sierra Avenue, preventing southbound traffic from entering the fire operation area.

To combat the brush fires, three Cal Fire air tankers and three water-dropping helicopters were requested. However, as of 2:30 p.m., the aircraft had not yet arrived.

With temperatures reaching almost 100 degrees, the conditions in the area were extremely hot.

Although the cause of the fires remains unknown, there have been no immediate reports regarding their trigger.
