Incorporating three-minute workouts into your day could be the key to toning your physique and improving wellbeing, according to experts.
Nutritional therapist Natalie Fader from Canada, explains how ‘exercise snacks’ – a quick routine of three to five exercises performed for a few minutes – can provide an array of health benefits. These include improved sleep, hormone regulation, and improved mood and mindset.
Fader tried the latest fitness trend herself and claimed her body shape is already changing and that she now has the ability to hold a plank for three minutes instead of just 30 seconds.
‘For all my “I don’t have time to exercise” people, listen up! It turns out if we do these short little workouts randomly throughout our day it pays off big time,’ Ms. Fader wrote on Instagram.
‘You build muscle which has huge benefits like improved sleep, hormone regulation, improved mood/mindset, etc.’
The health trend involves performing three to five exercises for a few minutes multiple times during the day. Some examples of exercises include planks, wall sits, squats, leg lifts, and an abdominal exercise of choice.
Fader revealed that alternating between these exercises throughout the workday has yielded positive results. She stated, ‘The payoff? My body shape is changing, my clothes are starting to feel different and my plank time is increasing!’
The movements performed are decent body weight exercises that activate core muscle groups. This ‘exercise snacks’ concept could improve sleep, mood, hormones, and tone muscles.
An ‘exercise snack’ is a routine of five different exercises such as single-leg knee bends, sit to stand, or single-leg quarter squats performed continuously for one minute with a one-minute passive recovery break in-between. Deakin University states that this concept could be enough to maintain movement and enhance the quality of life.
The short video has gone viral, amassing over 7.8 million views. Many have praised the concept for being doable and sustainable, while others have poked fun at the phrase by wanting to eat snacks while exercising.
In conclusion, incorporating short ‘exercise snacks’ into your day can yield significant benefits and is a simple yet brilliant way to improve your overall physical wellbeing.
