Get more for less: Verizon rumored to offer Netflix and Max in a $10 streaming package

Verizon plans to introduce a discounted bundle of streaming services that will include the ad-supported tiers of Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max. According to sources familiar with the matter as reported by The Wall Street Journal, the bundle is expected to be priced at $10 per month, a significant reduction compared to the approximately $17 monthly cost for the services when purchased separately.

It is uncommon for rival streaming services to collaborate on a bundled offering. However, such partnerships can be beneficial when facilitated through distributors like Verizon, Comcast, Apple, and Amazon. This approach can attract more customers to both streaming platforms and decrease the number of cancellations once viewers have completed watching a specific show.

Verizon’s Chief Executive of Consumer Group, Sowmyanarayan Sampath, recently highlighted the success of the company’s Plus Play marketplace in retaining customers. The hub, which consolidates content subscriptions for Verizon users, has contributed to a significant decrease in customer attrition, with churn rates reduced by 60-70% compared to the industry average.

While Verizon has previously offered Netflix in bundle packages, this new offering is unique in that it includes the streaming service’s $6.99 ad-supported tier. This means that Verizon customers who are already subscribed to Max’s $9.99 ad tier could essentially access Netflix for free. However, details regarding the launch date of the new bundled service and the revenue sharing arrangement between Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Verizon remain unclear. Efforts to obtain comments from all three companies are ongoing.
