TXT and Anitta keep us coming back for more
Could this be the collaboration of the year? South Korean boy group TXT (TOMORROW X TOGETHER) and Brazillian superstar Anitta team up for their latest release, “Back for More.” This brand-new track follows the success of TXT’s EP “The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION” and its hit song “Sugar Rush Ride.”
“Back for More” showcases a perfect blend of the two artists’ vocals, combined with a catchy bassline, infectious whistles, and elements of Latin Pop. The track made its official debut during their show-stopping performance at the VMAs.
In this edition of the Listening Party, we’ll share our thoughts on “Back for More” by TXT and Anitta.
Lyrically. “Back for More” explores the irresistible pull between two individuals, a magnetism that cannot be denied. Even if the object of their desire chooses to leave, they will always find themselves coming back for more.
The lyrics are straightforward, but the track manages to avoid sounding stale in all other aspects.
All I know is if you walk away / There’ll be something / There’ll be things you can’t replace / All I know is if you walk away / There’ll be something
Musically. “Back for More” embodies simplicity at its finest. Just like its lyrics, the instrumental is straightforward, featuring a groovy bassline and melody.
Producers, writers, and composers Ryan Tedder, Slow Rabbit, and Tyler Spry have created a blank canvas with this track, which could have been left as it is. However, they have added flourishes that elevate it to a whole new level.
This is especially evident in Anitta’s verse. The song starts off as a typical disco-pop track, reminiscent of Nile Rodgers with its baseline and guitar riffs. But after the first chorus, “Back for More” takes a genre shift, incorporating a Latin Pop sound into its guitar bass. Not to mention, Anitta’s Portuguese vocals serve as the perfect switch-up.
I don’t wanna feel nobody / If it isn’t you, baby / Contigo me pongo naughty / Been thinking about you lately / Ita, ita / Loco como mueve el culo, Anitta / De todas yo soy la favorita / Tú estás pa’ mí y yo pa’ ti todita / Pa-pa-pam-pam, pam-pam-pam-pam / I know what you like, sing it like / Pa-pa-pam-pam, pam-pam-pam-pam / Esto va a empezar (Oh)
Aside from that, Tedder, Slow Rabbit, and Spry cleverly incorporate whistles that follow the vocal melody, adding variety and depth to a track that is frequently heard throughout its runtime.
And let’s not forget about TXT’s vocals. They deliver a wonderful performance throughout the song, but it’s their harmonies and adlibs that truly shine. This is particularly evident in the instrumental breakdown, where Yeonjun showcases Michael Jackson-esque breaths and adlibs.
“Back for More” is the latest addition to TXT’s collection of all-English tracks, joining the likes of “Magic,” “Devil by the Window,” and “Do It Like That.” The song proves that they have much more to offer to the Western market. As we anticipate their upcoming album, “The Name Chapter: FREEFALL,” we can’t help but eagerly look forward to what they have in store for us.
