Georgia Ranks No. 1 as UW and Oregon Move Up, Ohio State Slips

In the lead up to the Pac-12 championship, both Washington and Oregon experienced a one-spot climb in the College Football Playoff rankings. This movement was attributed to Ohio State’s drop from No. 2 to No. 6 after their loss to Michigan.

Michigan ascended to second place, with Washington following in third. Florida State claimed the fourth spot, while Oregon secured the fifth position. Once again, the Ducks (11-1) stand as the highest-ranked one-loss team in the rankings.

The committee chair, Boo Corrigan, praised Oregon’s continued dominance on both offense and defense. Arizona maintained its 15th position, while Oregon State slipped to 20th after a significant loss to Oregon.

When asked about the comparison between Oregon and seventh-ranked Texas, Corrigan emphasized that the committee considers all factors.

If Washington wins the conference title, they are guaranteed a spot in the playoff. However, if Oregon clinches the Pac-12 title, the situation could become more complex.

Regardless, the Pac-12 is in a strong position to secure two berths in the New Year’s Six bowl lineup, ensuring a substantial financial gain for the conference and its members.
