Georgia Forces Trump Attorney John Eastman to Surrender

John Eastman, a conservative attorney, surrendered to authorities this Tuesday on charges related to an alleged illegal plot in Georgia to overturn Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election. Eastman, along with former President Trump and 17 others, is accused of scheming to subvert the will of Georgia voters and keep Joe Biden from assuming office. Eastman, who was a close adviser to Trump during the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, wrote a memo suggesting ways that Vice President Mike Pence could interfere in the counting of electoral votes. The indictment claims that Eastman and his associates attempted to pressure Pence into rejecting legitimate electoral votes for Biden and certifying false alternate electors claiming that Trump had won. Eastman’s legal team argues that the activities described in the indictment are political in nature and not criminal. However, Eastman is also facing potential disbarment in California for his involvement in election interference. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and characterizes the case, along with three others he faces, as an attempt to damage his 2024 presidential campaign.
