George Santos, a prominent Republican from New York, defiantly appeared in a live audio program Friday, following a troubling House ethics report that exposed his alleged misuse of campaign funds. During the program, he declared, “You want to expel me? I’ll wear it like a badge of honor,” challenging his colleagues’ rejection.
Santos appeared on an episode of X Spaces, formerly known as Twitter Spaces, hosted by conservative Monica Matthews. This appearance comes in the wake of a damning House ethics report that revealed that Santos used thousands of campaign dollars on personal luxuries, such as Botox injections.
Referencing the ongoing allegations and criminal charges against him, Santos vowed to defend himself and stressed his refusal to resign or step down from his position in Congress despite the mounting pressure from his peers to do so.
The turmoil surrounding Santos has led the Republican chairman of the House ethics committee to file a resolution for his expulsion. Santos, however, remains steadfast in his defiance, refusing to acknowledge his potential ejection and criticizing opponents for their “political expediency.”
Throughout the interview, Santos criticized his colleagues, particularly those from New York, and characterized them as indifferent and hypocritical. The embattled congressman also expressed frustration over the declining media coverage of extramarital affairs, bizarrely suggesting that his presence in Congress has prompted a shift in journalistic priorities.
