Gas Prices in LA County Reach Highest Level Since November 22

The price of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County has been on the rise for 20 consecutive days. On Saturday, it increased by 2.2 cents to reach $5.216 per gallon, the highest amount since November 22.

Over the past 20 days, the average price has gone up by 24.4 cents, with an increase of 2.2 cents seen on Friday. This upward trend follows a series of six decreases in seven days, amounting to a total decrease of 2.2 cents.

In comparison to one week ago, the average price in the county has increased by 6.8 cents. It is also 24 cents higher than last month but still 18.9 cents lower than the price one year ago. Notably, it has dropped by $1.278 since reaching a record high of $6.494 on October 5.

In Orange County, the average price has risen for the 12th consecutive day and the 18th time in 19 days. It increased by 2.5 cents, reaching $5.17 per gallon, the highest amount since November 21. Over the past 19 days, the price has increased by 26.9 cents, including a rise of 2.8 cents on Friday.


In comparison to one week ago, the average price in Orange County has increased by 8 cents. It is also 24.8 cents higher than last month but still 13.3 cents lower than the price one year ago. Similar to Los Angeles County, it has dropped by $1.289 since reaching a record high of $6.459 on October 5.

On a national level, the average price of gasoline has risen for the 21st time in 25 days, increasing by half a cent to reach $3.846. It experienced 17 consecutive days of increase, remained unchanged last Saturday and Monday, dropped by two-tenths of a cent on Sunday, and half a cent on Tuesday before resuming its upward trend on Wednesday.

Over the past 25 days, the national average price has gone up by 28.3 cents, including a rise of 1.3 cents on Friday. In comparison to one week ago, it has increased by 1.5 cents. Additionally, it is 30.5 cents higher than last month but still 13.2 cents lower than the price one year ago.

Since reaching a record high of $5.016 on June 14, 2022, the national average price has dropped by $1.17. AAA national public relations manager, Andrew Gross, notes that we are currently at a pivotal point where the direction of gas prices can either go up or down. The recent decrease in refinery production due to the summer heat has eased for now, so the cost of oil will determine if the recent price climb is coming to an end. Gross advises us to stay tuned as more expensive oil is likely to lead to higher prices.
