CELEVELAND — Deshaun Watson, the star quarterback of the Cleveland Browns, was unable to play in Sunday’s game against the Ravens due to a right shoulder injury, contributing to the team’s disappointing 28-3 loss.
Prior to the game, Watson attempted to warm up on the field in front of Browns officials, but ultimately decided it was best for him to remain inactive.
Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski provided an update after the game, stating that he expects Watson to make a full recovery and return for the team’s next game in two weeks, where they will face the San Francisco 49ers. Stefanski reassured fans that Watson’s injury is not severe, with no structural damage or torn ligaments found in his shoulder.
“Unfortunately, Deshaun did not feel comfortable enough to perform at the level required for the game,” Stefanski explained. “He’s extremely disappointed as he was eager to contribute, but he made the right decision in prioritizing his health and well-being.”
Stefanski had expressed optimism on Friday about Watson’s availability for the game, but the quarterback’s condition did not improve enough during pregame warm-up. Stefanski fully supports Watson’s decision to prioritize his own body’s signals.
Without Watson leading the offense, the Browns struggled to generate points against the Ravens. The team’s lone score came from a field goal, following a 37-yard defensive pass interference penalty. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson stepped in as Watson’s replacement but faced significant challenges, completing only 19 of 36 passes for 121 yards and throwing three interceptions.
