Fundraisers Organized by Families of 3 Orange County Women Tragically Killed in Traffic Collision

The families of three ride-share passengers from Orange County who tragically lost their lives in a traffic collision have taken it upon themselves to organize fundraisers on September 2 and 3. These fundraisers aim to help cover their funeral expenses during this difficult time.

The collision occurred early on a Saturday morning at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Century Boulevard in Los Angeles. The driver responsible for the accident, a 31-year-old man named Gregory Black, was travelling at a high speed, ran a red light, and collided with the vehicle carrying the three Orange County women, along with a fourth passenger and the driver. The Los Angeles Police Department has charged Black with manslaughter.

Two of the victims, Kimberly Izquierdo and Veronica Amezola, were sisters from Santa Ana, both 27 and 23 years old respectively. The third victim, Juvelyn Arroyo, was a childhood friend who grew up with the sisters in the same apartment complex in San Juan Capistrano.

To raise funds for Arroyo’s funeral expenses, a fundraiser will be held at 6074 Crest Avenue in Riverside, featuring food and raffles at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Izquierdo and Amezola’s family will also be hosting their separate fundraisers. On Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., they will be selling horchata, tacos, enchiladas, and more at 1409 West McFadden Avenue in Santa Ana. Additionally, another fundraiser event will take place on Sunday at 4470 Morristown Drive in Riverside, offering food, drinks, and raffles starting at 11 a.m.

According to Jose Izquierdo, the 31-year-old brother of Kimberly and Veronica, the sisters enjoyed attending concerts and had actually been at a music event before the fatal crash. They had informed their parents about their plans for the night and had even asked their 15-year-old sister to help them with their makeup before they left.

“Their whole world is shattered. It’s dark right now,” expressed Jose Izquierdo on behalf of his parents, reflecting the devastating impact of this tragedy.

Kimberly Izquierdo, the 27-year-old sister, was an alumni of Cal State Dominguez Hills and had recently graduated from nursing school. She had been working as a licensed vocational nurse for AltaMed. Veronica Amezola, the 23-year-old sister, had recently graduated from Cal Poly Humboldt after conducting research and studying in the field of environmental science. She had less than a year of experience working at the Orange County Animal Shelter.

According to her Facebook page, Arroyo had studied at UC Riverside.

This unfortunate incident has left the families and friends of the victims in despair, but through these fundraisers, the community can come together and provide support during these difficult times.
