Fulton County Clerk Provides Explanation for Trump Document Mishap Prior to Indictment

Prior to a grand jury indicting former President Donald Trump and his allies in Georgia, social media was abuzz with confusion.

In a report on Monday afternoon, Reuters stated that charges against Trump had been filed, even though the grand jury had not yet made a final decision. This led to speculation that either there was a technical mishap or that the outcome was predetermined.

Some individuals on social media even called for a “mistrial,” despite the fact that the actual trial is still months away.

The Fulton County Superior Court clerk’s office quickly debunked the Reuters story, stating that the document was “fictitious” and clarifying that no conclusion had been reached by the grand jury at that point. The document subsequently disappeared from where Reuters reporters claimed to have found it.

The office released a more detailed explanation on Tuesday, attributing the confusion to technology and human error.

The Fulton County Superior Court Clerk, Ché Alexander, stated that she had filed a placeholder document to test the court’s filing system in preparation for potential issues with a large indictment. She used existing charges in the system, which happened to be the same crimes Trump was later charged with. However, the document was not an actual indictment, as clarified by the office’s statement.

Since media outlets have early access to court documents, reporters mistook the sample charging sheet for the real document. The media had been anticipating additional charges against Trump and had been closely monitoring the Fulton County court website for any signs of a fourth indictment.

The absence of specific markings on the sample document indicated that it was not genuine, according to the office.

However, Alexander’s office acknowledged the confusion caused by the incident and recognized the sensitivity surrounding court filings.

Trump has already seized upon this mishap to serve his own purposes.

He wrote on Truth Social, “And what about those Indictment Documents put out today, long before the Grand Jury even voted, and then quickly withdrawn? Sounds Rigged to me!”
