A Sabbath service at Temple Beth Tikvah in Fullerton was abruptly halted due to a false bomb threat.
The service was being broadcasted live on Facebook and YouTube. Temple officials reported receiving a phone call with antisemitic comments from an unidentified man, as confirmed by Fullerton Police Captain Jon Radus.
“While the recorded call contained antisemitic remarks, it did not reach the level of criminal activity,” stated Radus.
At 10:40 a.m., the Fullerton police received a call from the Los Angeles Police Department, who had been notified of a bomb threat at Temple Beth Tikvah. The caller claimed that the bomb would detonate within 20 minutes, according to Radus.
Upon receiving the information, Fullerton police evacuated the synagogue and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad conducted a thorough search, determining that the threat was unfounded.
During the live broadcast, viewers witnessed the rabbi abruptly leaving the pulpit about an hour into the service, followed shortly by the cantor. The broadcast was subsequently interrupted.
Details of the incident were shared with the Orange County Intelligence Assessment Center for further investigation, Radus added.
