French Ferry to Depart from New Ireland with Spa and Pet-Friendly Cabins

Rosslare Europort welcomes the latest addition to its fleet, the Stena Vision, just in time for the peak summer holiday period. This is part of the ongoing comeback of ferry companies at Irish ports, with more and more people, along with their furry companions, setting sail from Cork, Dublin, and Rosslare.

The Stena Vision, a 1,300-passenger ship, recently arrived at Rosslare Europort after undergoing a major refit in Gdansk, Poland. The ship boasts a spa and 485 passenger cabins, more than any other ferry currently sailing from Ireland. What’s more, 42 of these cabins are pet-friendly, allowing families to bring their beloved pets along on holiday. Ferry companies have noticed a growing trend of passengers traveling with their pets, with last year seeing a significant increase in the number of pets sailing with their owners.

Stena Vision’s Pure Nordic Spa offers a range of relaxing amenities, including saunas, Jacuzzis, and various beauty treatments such as manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, and body scrubs. Orla Noonan, the Irish Sea travel commercial manager, expressed enthusiasm about the spa, stating that they have been working with experts to create a truly soothing Nordic zen experience for their customers. Entry to the adults-only facility can be pre-booked at €15 for a two-hour session, with additional fees for treatments. The spa includes spacious changing areas, locker facilities, towels, robes, and slippers.

From June 30, Stena Vision will start sailing to Cherbourg, operating alongside the Stena Horizon. Together, they will offer 12 sailings a week. Lead-in fares for car and driver in July and August start from €239 for a one-way trip. This follows the arrival of the Oscar Wilde ferry from Irish Ferries at Rosslare Europort, which has a higher passenger capacity but fewer cabins compared to Stena Vision.

Brittany Ferries has also experienced a significant increase in passengers on its Ireland to France routes, with a 171% increase compared to 2019. This is partly due to new services connecting Rosslare with Le Havre and Cherbourg. The company has upgraded its direct sailing from Ireland to Spain with the cruise-ferry Salamanca, which offers 22 pet-friendly cabins. The Roscoff to Cork route has seen a 3% increase from last year and a 36% increase from 2019.

Overall, ferry companies are encouraged by their passenger performance this year, particularly in Ireland. Although they have not yet reached their desired levels in all markets, they remain in a healthy position. Ireland has become strategically significant for their business, as stated by Christophe Mathieu, the CEO of Brittany Ferries.
