Free Books for Ages 0-5 Statewide in Missouri from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a national program aimed at fostering young readers, has now expanded to cover the entire state of Missouri.

Children from birth to five years old are eligible to participate in the program, which provides them with books tailored to their age group.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has allocated $11 million for the program in the 2024 Fiscal Year, signaling a significant investment in early childhood literacy.

Katie Earnhart, director of the Cape Public Library, emphasized the importance of personalized books for children, stating that receiving a book with their name on it can be a truly special and exciting experience.

According to Earnhart, “Adding excitement around reading is crucial for early literacy and development of lifelong learning and the love of reading and so that’s why it’s such an impactful program.”

Pam Thomas, Assistant Commissioner with the DESE’s Office of Childhood, reported that the launch of the program has generated high levels of interest and traffic.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is now open in Missouri

There is no deadline to register for the Imagination Library, and it is open to all eligible children in the state of Missouri.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library was previously available in specific areas of the state through 57 local affiliates, but now it is accessible to all Missouri residents.

To register a child for the program, a parent or guardian must sign up on the Imagination Library national website.
