Francisco Lindor sensed that something was amiss.
The star shortstop, who recently signed a $341 million contract with the Mets, experienced soreness on his right side during pregame stretching on Friday. As a result, he was removed from the starting lineup and scheduled for imaging on Saturday morning.
Due to his injury, Lindor did not play in the Mets’ 7-0 loss to the Braves, breaking his streak of 223 consecutive games played. Speaking about the situation, Lindor expressed trust in the team’s decision to prioritize his health and avoid risking further injury.
This incident reminded Lindor of a past experience where he tried to play through an injury, only to worsen the situation. He had missed five weeks in 2021 due to a right oblique strain and was hesitant to face the possibility of a recurrence or missing Saturday’s doubleheader.
Lindor, however, remains optimistic and hopes that his current condition is only a day-to-day issue. Comparing it to his previous injury, he believes it doesn’t compare and is hopeful to return to the field soon.
