After more than five weeks since a Cessna 206 plane crashed in the jungles of Caqueta, four children from an indigenous community in Colombia were found alive by the military on Friday. President Gustavo Petro confirmed the news and said that the children, aged 13, 9, 4, and a now 12-month-old baby, were rescued near the border of Caqueta and Guaviare provinces, where the plane had crashed. The siblings survived the impact, but sadly three adults, including the children’s mother, perished in the crash. The joyous news was shared by the Colombian military through photos of the four children surrounded by soldiers in the midst of the jungle. The rescue operation, supported by search dogs and aircraft from Colombia’s army and air force, finally ended a month-long agony of the children’s families.
