Former WWE Star Darren Drozdov Passes Away at Age 54, After Paralyzing Accident in the Ring

Darren Drozdov, a former star in the WWE and NFL, passed away on Friday at the age of 54 from natural causes.

According to his family, Drozdov, affectionately known as ‘Droz,’ became a quadriplegic as a result of a tragic ring accident during his time with the WWE in 1999.

Despite his physical condition, Drozdov maintained a championship mindset for nearly 25 years. His family praised him for living every day to the fullest and quoted him saying, “Just because I’m paralyzed and stuck in a wheelchair doesn’t mean my life is over. I’ve learned to live again, and my life is far from over.”

Drozdov had a brief career in football, playing for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Denver Broncos from 1993 to 1995. However, he gained fame as a player for vomiting on the field during a “Monday Night Football” match, earning him the nickname “Puke.”

In 1997, Drozdov joined Extreme Championship Wrestling before signing with the WWE a year later. Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon once asked to see Drozdov vomit. However, his wrestling career came to an end on October 5, 1999, when he suffered a severe injury in the ring, breaking two vertebrae in his neck and leaving him paralyzed.

Despite his struggles, Drozdov maintained a positive attitude and admitted that cannabis helped alleviate his constant headaches. The WWE paid tribute to his time in the company, and former colleagues like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson expressed their condolences.
