Former standout player from Centennial High School scores 17 points in dominant victory for Team USA in FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup

Former Centennial High School standout Londynn Jones showcased her talent by scoring 17 points off the bench as the United States dominated Chinese Taipei, securing a resounding 112-49 victory in Madrid and concluding the group phase play in the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.

Impressively, the UCLA sophomore guard achieved an impressive shooting performance, converting seven out of nine shots, including two successful 3-point attempts, and making one of two free throws, all in just 18 minutes and 17 seconds.

From the very beginning, the U.S. had control of the game, swiftly outscoring Chinese Taipei 10-2 within the first 4 minutes and 13 seconds. The first quarter ended with the U.S. leading 27-10, and by halftime, they had secured a commanding 52-20 advantage. The third quarter concluded with the U.S. leading 75-36, showcasing their dominance throughout the match.

Forward Joyce Edwards, a senior at Camden High School in Camden, South Carolina, once again led the Americans in scoring with an impressive 19 points in just 20 minutes and 11 seconds off the bench. Additionally, four other American players achieved double-digit scores in a game where no player exceeded 20 minutes and 37 seconds on the court.

Despite the efforts of Chinese Taipei’s Guard En Hsin Li, who scored eight points, it was not enough to overcome the dominant performance of the U.S. team in this Group B game at Sport Complex Espartales.

With this victory, the U.S. completed the group phase with a perfect 3-0 record, outscoring their opponents by an impressive margin of 297-161.

In order to participate in the tournament, players must be born on or after January 1, 2004.

The United States currently holds the top spot in the FIBA girls rankings, thanks to their recent outstanding performances in international tournaments. In contrast, Chinese Taipei is ranked 28th.
