Former San Diego High School Basketball Standout Mikey Williams Admits to Felony Charge – NBC 7 San Diego

Former NBA hopeful Mikey Williams has entered a guilty plea to a single charge of making criminal threats following a non-injury shooting incident outside his home in Jamul. As part of the plea agreement, Williams must complete cognitive behavioral therapy, gun safety, and anger management classes, as well as 80 hours of community service. If he adheres to the terms of the deal and avoids any further violations, the charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor. Additionally, Williams is prohibited from possessing a firearm and will face a 10-year gun restriction at his sentencing on August 12, 2024.

Highly-touted Memphis basketball recruit Mikey Williams was previously facing multiple felony charges after a shooting incident on March 27. He has been out on a $50,000 bond since being arrested on April 13. The altercation at Williams’ $1.2 million home in Jamul resulted in gunshots being fired at a car with five passengers, but fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Had he been convicted of all charges, Williams could have faced a lengthy prison sentence. Testimony during his preliminary hearing revealed that he made threats and added additional counts of assault and making threats. Witnesses at the hearing described an angry Williams making threats, and while no one saw him fire a gun, there is probable cause to move the case forward based on the witness accounts. Despite the legal proceedings, Williams is enrolled at Memphis and is still on the roster, with his status pending resolution of the court case.

Williams had been making headlines as one of the first athletes to capitalize on the name, image, and likeness era, securing a lucrative deal with Puma for an undisclosed amount in 2021. Despite deactivating his social media accounts, he remains a notable figure in the evolving landscape of collegiate athletics.
