Henry Ruggs, former player for the Las Vegas Raiders, has pleaded guilty to driving his sports car at extremely high speeds while intoxicated, leading to a fatal crash that claimed the life of a woman and her dog. Ruggs, a former first-round NFL draft pick, has avoided trial by accepting a plea deal that includes a three to ten-year prison sentence. The plea deal does not allow for a reduction in Ruggs’ sentence based on the time he has spent on house arrest.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson explained that potential legal obstacles prompted the decision to enter into a plea agreement with Ruggs. The agreement ensures that Ruggs will be convicted of felony DUI causing death and will serve his prison sentence without the opportunity to appeal. Wolfson emphasized the seriousness of the charges, stating that drunk driving resulting in death is the most severe offense permitted by law. Ruggs, accompanied by a small group of individuals, declined to comment following the court appearance and is currently free until his sentencing.

The Las Vegas Raiders released Ruggs while he was still recovering in the hospital following the crash. The family of Tina Tintor, the victim, attended the court proceedings and expressed gratitude to the district attorney’s office. They look forward to putting the case behind them. Wolfson previously stated that Ruggs could face a minimum of two years in prison if convicted at trial, with the possibility of a sentence exceeding 50 years. (Read more Henry Ruggs stories.)
