The prosecution argued that Tarrio utilized his influence to endorse and encourage violence, and as a result, they pursued a prison sentence of 33 years. Last week, Ethan Nordean, another leader of the Proud Boys, received an 18-year sentence, which at that time was the longest sentence for a Capitol riot-related charge. Earlier this year, Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the Oath Keepers, was sentenced to 18 years for his involvement,’ indicates The New York Times.
‘Prosecutor Conor Mulroe described the efforts to overturn President Biden’s 2020 election victory as a “calculated act of terrorism,” reports the AP. He emphasized the need to establish clear consequences for anyone dissatisfied with future election results. He stated, “We need to make sure the consequences are abundantly clear to anyone who might be unhappy with the results of 2024, 2028, 2032, or any future election for as long as this case is remembered.” During the hearing, Judge Timothy Kelly recited the seditious conspiracy statute and labeled Tarrio as “motivated by revolutionary zeal”,’ reveals The New York Times.
Tarrio, who is 39 years old, pleaded for leniency during the hearing and acknowledged the Capitol attack as a “national embarrassment,” according to the AP.
