Former President Trump implicated as ‘Trump Employee 4’ retracts testimony following attorney change, state prosecutors reveal

An anonymous former employee of ex-President Donald Trump has retracted their previous “false testimony” to a grand jury after hiring new legal representation, federal prosecutors revealed on Tuesday. Referred to as “Trump Employee 4” in court documents from special counsel Jack Smith’s office, the individual changed their statements and provided information that potentially implicates Trump and others in alleged attempts to delete security footage at Mar-a-Lago. It has been confirmed that Trump Employee 4 is Yuscil Tavares, a technology worker at Mar-a-Lago, who is now cooperating with Smith’s team. Previously, the employee repeatedly denied any knowledge or conversation about the security footage, but in July, after being informed of being a target of the investigation, they obtained a new attorney and provided vital information to the Justice Department, leading to an updated indictment against Trump, his valet Walt Nauta, and Carlos De Oliveira. The witness’s interaction with their lawyer, Stanley Woodward, who also represents Nauta, has raised potential conflicts of interest, prompting prosecutors to request a hearing in Florida. The encounter explains why the grand jury in Washington continued to investigate potential false statements, despite already securing an indictment in Florida. Woodward declined to comment on the matter. A trial is scheduled for May 20, 2024, in the classified documents case, and Trump maintains his innocence, pleading not guilty. Apart from this case, he also faces prosecution by Smith for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, as well as criminal charges in Georgia and New York.
