The Republican-led House Oversight Committee conducted a thorough interview with Devon Archer, shedding light on the Biden family businesses as part of a larger congressional inquiry. Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers present during the closed-door interview revealed that over the span of 10 years, Hunter Biden would occasionally have his father on the phone while in the company of associates, but they never spoke about any business dealings.
According to New York Rep. Dan Goldman, who represented Democrats in the room, Archer testified that Hunter would sell the “illusion of access” to his father by taking credit for things his father did as vice president, even though he had no involvement. On the other hand, Rep. Andy Biggs, a Republican member of the Oversight Committee, interpreted the testimony as directly implicating the president. Biggs, speaking to reporters after the interview, stated, “I think we should do an impeachment inquiry.” He further added, “Archer testified that the Ukrainian gas company Burisma would have gone out of business sooner if the Biden brand had not been invoked. People would be intimidated to legally mess with Burisma because of the Biden family brand.”
Archer, who served with Hunter Biden on the board of Burisma, has long been deemed a crucial witness by Republicans in their efforts to directly link the president to his son’s international business transactions. However, the White House viewed the testimony as falling short of providing the “bombshell evidence” promised by House Republicans.
