Former Homeless Teen Gets Married at White Castle in Arizona Years After Being Helped by Fast Food Worker

A couple recently got married at a White Castle location in Arizona because of their shared love for the popular fast-food chain and to commemorate how it had positively impacted the bride’s life. Jamie West, 41, and Drew Schmitt, 58, hosted their unique royal wedding at a White Castle in Scottsdale, complete with sliders, onion rings, and other fast-food favorites. The theme of their wedding was “king and queen storming the castle,” with blue and gold decorations.

West, who had a tumultuous upbringing as a homeless runaway and foster child, found solace and support in White Castle during her difficult teen years. She recalls being taken in by a kind employee who offered her food and a place to rest. This experience sparked a deep gratitude for the chain, and she would seek out White Castles wherever she went, often sharing the food with other homeless kids she encountered.

Schmitt, who grew up in the same city as the White Castle headquarters, also had a fondness for the restaurant. Going to White Castle became a tradition for him and his loved ones after sporting events, including his prom dinner.

West and Schmitt crossed paths in Arizona and bonded over their shared love for White Castle. They dated for several years before deciding to show their appreciation for the chain by being the first customers at the newly opened White Castle location in Scottsdale. This act earned them a place in the White Castle Cravers Hall of Fame.

The couple’s wedding planning took inspiration from the White Castle logo, with blue and gold as their attire colors. They had tattooed wedding bands designed by a tattoo artist and served White Castle menu items to their guests, along with a burger-shaped cake. The couple hopes that their story will inspire children and teens who may be going through tough times and emphasize that a difficult start in life doesn’t define one’s future. They also want to shed light on the varying quality of foster care homes and raise awareness about abuse in such environments. With their fairy tale wedding, West and Schmitt are now living their happily ever after.
