Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt emerges as highest bidder in $67.6M luxury yacht auction

Former Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, has acquired the luxurious superyacht, Alfa Nero, through a successful bid of $67.6 million at an auction. The yacht was abandoned in Antigua by its previous owner, Russian billionaire Andrey Guryev, who faced sanctions from the US Treasury. Guryev has denied claims that he initially purchased the vessel for $120 million in 2014. The Alfa Nero, manufactured by Oceanco, is renowned for its opulence and has been described as one of the most prestigious and accolade-winning yachts in the world. Equipped with extravagant amenities such as a baby grand piano and a helipad, the yacht had incurred significant maintenance costs of $112,000 per month while harbored in Falmouth Harbor, leading Antigua and Barbuda to eagerly seek its sale. Schmidt, whose net worth is estimated at $25 billion, was Google’s CEO from 2001 to 2011 and later became executive chairman for both Google and its parent company, Alphabet, before resigning in 2018. It is worth noting that Guryev’s daughter has recently filed an injunction claiming ownership of the yacht.
