Former Fox Executives Shocked by the ‘Disinformation Machine’ They Played a Part in Building

Three former executives of Fox express regret for their involvement in the creation of the right-wing news network that dominates today’s media landscape.

In a joint statement, Preston Padden, Ken Solomon, and Bill Reyner express deep disappointment for their role in giving birth to the Fox Broadcasting Company.

During the 1990s, Reyner served as lead counsel while Padden was a lobbyist, working to obtain waivers from restrictions on foreign ownership and cross-ownership of newspapers and broadcast. This allowed Rupert Murdoch, an Australian media mogul, to establish his fledgling network.

Solomon, as vice president of network distribution, was responsible for recruiting affiliates.

At the time, they greatly admired Rupert Murdoch and believed that creating a fourth competitive force in broadcast television was in the public interest.

Although they never worked for Fox News, they now regret that the Fox Broadcasting Company they helped create led to the rise of the right-wing media network.

They express their surprise and disappointment that Fox has become a disinformation machine, as evidenced by the Dominion lawsuit in which the network was found guilty of spreading false news. Fox acknowledged this and paid nearly $800 million in damages to Dominion.

The trio also criticizes the network for promoting Donald Trump’s “big lie” about the 2020 election and contributing to the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol. They note that some defendants in the January 6 attack have even pleaded not guilty, citing “Foxitis” as the cause, a disease caused by watching false news on Fox!
