Former Defense Secretary Criticizes Trump in Explosive Rant on Nuclear Submarine Reports

Former Defense Secretary William Cohen criticizes Donald Trump for his detrimental impact on democracy. Recent reports reveal that Trump shared sensitive information about the country’s nuclear submarine program with an Australian billionaire at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Cohen, a Republican who served in President Bill Clinton’s administration, expressed his lack of surprise and condemned Trump’s disregard for national security interests during an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

“He has previously leaked secrets and will continue to do so in the future. This incident gives him the benefit of the doubt, but how much more evidence do we need of his misconduct towards our institutions?” Cohen questioned.

“Trump considers those who serve our country, our military heroes, as ‘losers’ and ‘suckers.’ He undermined the intelligence community in Helsinki, and everything he has done has eroded respect for our nation,” he added.

Cohen’s comments come amidst an ongoing investigation by special counsel Jack Smith into Trump’s handling of classified documents.

Sources informed ABC News that the billionaire, Anthony Pratt, shared what Trump revealed with at least 45 people.

“This is just one more reason why we should never allow Trump to access classified information in the future through our votes. He should never be anywhere near the Oval Office,” Cohen asserted.

In another part of the interview, Cohen highlighted the risks of sharing sensitive information. He emphasized that out of the triad, submarines are the most secure because they are not targetable.

“A preemptive target cannot attack submarines. They can target airplanes and land-based missiles, but not submarines,” he explained.

“That’s why submarines are special. And here, Trump is divulging classified information about our global protection,” he concluded.
