Former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Dick Hall, known as ‘Turkey,’ passes away at the age of 92

Former MLB pitcher and outfielder, Dick “Turkey” Hall, passed away at the age of 92. Hall spent an impressive nine seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, winning two World Series titles. The team confirmed his death on Monday.

Hall, known for his distinctive throwing delivery and the nickname “Turkey,” was born on September 27, 1930, in St. Louis. He began his professional career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1952 and was later traded to the Kansas City Athletics in 1959. In 1961, he joined the Baltimore Orioles, only to be traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 1966. However, Hall returned to the Orioles as a free agent in 1969.

Throughout his 16-year career, Hall achieved a pitching record of 93-75, with an impressive 3.32 ERA in 495 appearances. He also showcased his batting skills, hitting .210 with four home runs, 15 doubles, four triples, and 56 RBIs in 821 plate appearances.

Hall’s contributions to the Orioles’ success included being part of their World Series-winning teams in 1966 and 1970. He also had World Series appearances with the Orioles in 1969 and 1971, where he played alongside legendary teammates like Frank Robinson, Roberto Clemente, Bill Mazeroski, Brooks Robinson, and Jim Palmer.

In recognition of his achievements, Hall was inducted into the Orioles Hall of Fame in 1989. He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Maria Elena, daughters Norma, Martha, and Helen, son David, as well as nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
