Former Aide of Mike Pence Recounts Witnessing the Mug Shot of Donald Trump

Marc Short, the former chief of staff for Vice President Mike Pence, shared his thoughts on seeing former President Donald Trump’s mugshot after his arrest at the Fulton County Jail last week.

“I find it sad and tragic,” Short expressed on Friday in response to CNN’s Jake Tapper asking for his reaction to the image.

Short, who also held the position of director of legislative affairs in the Trump White House, acknowledged that the former president had been supportive of him and his family. However, he proceeded to comment on the events of January 6, 2021.

“I believe the events of January 6 were tragic and could have been prevented. I think that the president received misguided advice, often seeking out counsel that led him in the wrong direction,” Short explained.

“Ultimately, asking the vice president to disregard the Constitution is a significant violation of the most important oath to the American people, which is to protect and defend the Constitution,” he added.

On Thursday, Trump pleaded not guilty to charges related to his and 18 other co-defendants’ attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. He is facing a total of 91 criminal charges across four cases.

This is not the first time Short has criticized individuals in Trump’s circle. In a previous appearance on “Meet the Press,” he likened the former president’s advisors to “basically snake oil salesmen.”

Tapper later inquired about the reactions of other members in the Trump White House who have not faced charges. Short responded, “For some, it may feel surreal, and they might need some distance from it. However, there are many of us who believe that the events of that day [January 6] were tragic, and the president’s request to the vice president went against his oath. On the other hand, there are others who still want to defend and support his candidacy in 2024 and wish for this to be resolved.”
