Ford’s F-150 Lightning electric pickup is getting a significant price reduction, thanks to increased plant capacity, lower battery costs, and potential competition from Tesla. Ford Motor Co. announced on Monday that upgrades at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan will result in improved availability of the truck, with a suggested retail price closer to the original Lightning pricing. The MSRP for the Pro model will be reduced to $49,995 from $59,974, while the Lariat 510A’s MSRP will decline to $69,995 from $76,974. These changes are expected to take effect in October.

These price cuts come shortly after Tesla announced the production of its first Cybertruck, an electric pickup. The exact price for the Cybertruck is still unknown, as Tesla removed the prices from its website. Initially, Tesla stated that the Cybertruck would have three versions, ranging from approximately $40,000 to $70,000. However, customers can now place an order with a $100 deposit but without knowing the final price.
This development follows the announcement in March by Ford CEO Jim Farley and Tesla CEO Elon Musk that all of Ford’s present and future electric vehicles would have access to around 12,000 Tesla Supercharger stations in the US and Canada, beginning in the spring. Additionally, commercial customers can utilize Ford Pro Charging solutions to keep their F-150 Lightning charged, whether at home or at work.
