For Sale: The Infamous Door Behind Which Sharon Tate Tragically Met Her Fate

The auction, titled “Legends: Hollywood and Royalty,” features a unique and dark item. In early September, 1,400 objects that represent Hollywood’s greatest legends and cultural figures will be auctioned. Among them will be the door from 10050 Cielo Dr., on which Charles Manson’s followers wrote the word “PIG” using Sharon Tate’s blood. The Washington Post reported that this door came from the mansion where Sharon Tate, who was pregnant at the time, and three friends were brutally murdered by Manson’s followers on August 9, 1969.

The story of the door continues as Juliet’s Auctions recounts its journey. Trent Reznor, a member of Nine Inch Nails, rented the home in 1992 while working on the group’s album “Downward Spiral.” He took the door with him when he left in December 1993, and the house was eventually demolished. TMZ reports that Jeff Franklin, the creator of “Full House,” constructed a mansion on the land. Reznor brought the door to New Orleans and installed it at his “Nothing Studios.” After Reznor moved his studio to Los Angeles, the door remained in Moore’s possession, who is now selling it.

The listing notes that the door has been repainted at some point. Although the estimated sale price is $2,000 to $4,000, the current bid is already at $25,000. Other items in the auction include gowns worn by Princess Diana, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall’s wedding rings, Princess Leia’s slave costume from “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” Harry Potter characters’ wands, Audrey Hepburn’s famous dress from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and Robert Redford’s baseball bat from “The Natural.” These items offer a less macabre and more iconic glimpse into Hollywood history.
