“For Sale: Picturesque Moselle Estate House at Murdaugh Family Farm

A unique property spanning approximately 21 acres in Islandton, South Carolina, has recently been listed for sale at an asking price of $1.95 million. This property, which includes a 5,275-square-foot home, is part of a larger parcel with a tragic history.

The sale of the 1,772-acre Murdaugh family hunting farm, where Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were found murdered in 2021, has garnered national attention as an unsolved murder case. Now, a section of that property is open for a new owner to take possession.

The Moselle Estate House, available for purchase per its listing, features four bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, and charming rustic interiors.

James Ayer and Jeffrey Godley, local farmers, acquired the Moselle Farm shortly after Alex Murdaugh, the family patriarch and disgraced attorney, was convicted of killing Maggie and Paul near the farm’s dog kennels. Ayer and Godley spent $2.66 million on eight tracts of land, and they currently own the portion of the property not listed for sale. While Ayer and Godley have no connection to the Murdaugh family, the sale of the house was postponed until all personal belongings belonging to the Murdaugh family had been removed from the premises.

The property was initially listed for sale in March 2022 for $3.9 million.

Auctioned in Georgia, numerous Murdaugh family belongings were sold, including turtle shell lamps, which fetched prices between $500 and $800 each. Additionally, the brown leather couch where Alex Murdaugh claimed he slept on the night of the murders sold for $36,000.

Viewers of Netflix’s “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” might recognize the Moselle Estate House, as it was featured in the show’s second season. The house is where Gloria Satterfield, the Murdaugh family’s long-time housekeeper, tragically passed away in early 2018 after a slip-and-fall accident. This incident triggered its own investigations in light of the double homicide.

The columned white house sits at the end of a tree-lined driveway and boasts both front and back porches. As you enter through the mahogany front door, you are greeted by a two-story foyer with beautiful pine floors. The chef’s kitchen, complete with a breakfast nook and high-quality appliances, opens up to a family room adorned with custom built-ins, crown molding, and elegant mahogany French doors leading to the back porch.

The primary bedroom, located on the main level, features an ensuite bath with a Jacuzzi tub. Additional main-level amenities include a recreation room suitable for billiards, complete with recessed lighting, custom built-ins, and gun cabinets. The listing images also showcase a wood-clad dining room with large windows.

The property itself, as can be seen in the marketing materials, consists of open fields and mature woodlands, offering a secluded atmosphere. The listing suggests that this offering can be used as a family residence or a weekend retreat, among other possibilities.
