Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo Raises Concerns Over Safety of Latest COVID Booster: Guiding Americans to Exercise Caution

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ hand-picked Surgeon General, Joseph Ladapo, warns against getting the upcoming COVID-19 booster vaccine expected to receive approval soon. Ladapo expressed his concerns about the lack of evidence supporting the shot and raised red flags regarding its safety during a press conference on Thursday. The booster shots, which target the Omicron subvariant XBB.1.5, are waiting for FDA approval on safety, efficacy, and quality standards. Following FDA approval, the shots must receive CDC sign-off, which may come as early as Tuesday.

During the press conference, Ladapo advised people to listen to their intuition and follow what feels right and true to them. He also claimed that global studies showed an increased likelihood of COVID infection among those who had received boosters. Although DeSantis did not provide a specific opinion on the booster, he criticized the FDA and CDC, accusing them of corruption and acting as an arm of Big Pharma.

This warning from Surgeon General Ladapo echoes his previous concerns about older versions of the COVID-19 vaccines. The FDA and CDC responded harshly to Ladapo’s warnings earlier this year, accusing him of fueling vaccine hesitancy. They emphasized that the benefits of the authorized and approved COVID-19 vaccines clearly outweighed the risks. However, approval for the updated booster shots is expected soon, with Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax manufacturing new versions of the vaccine. Similar to annual flu shots, the COVID-19 vaccine has been adjusted to target the dominant variant over the summer, although the targeted XBB.1.5 variant has since diminished.

During the press conference, DeSantis assured that Florida would not implement temporary school closures or mask mandates despite the increase in COVID cases. He voiced his concerns about the resurgence of COVID-related restrictions and called for pushback against such measures. DeSantis’s stance on COVID precautions, including no mask mandates, vaccine mandates, or school closures, aligns with his campaign as he seeks the GOP nomination for president.

Following the press conference, DeSantis sent an email to his supporters, pledging to fight against any attempt by the Left to expand government control regarding COVID-19 precautions. He also appeared on Fox News that evening to reiterate his position. It is worth noting that DeSantis’s press conference occurred near the site of a shooting by a white supremacist, an event that prompted criticism from an audience member during the conference. DeSantis vehemently denied the accusations and expressed anger over being accused of allowing criminal activity.
