Flaming Cheese Cooled? Find Out in Our SEO-Friendly & Engaging ‘Greek Wedding 3’ Review!

Last summer, Nia Vardalos took audiences on a trip to the beautiful island of Corfu through “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3.” This 90-minute film, compiled from snapshots and videos, offers a unique and creative experience that can be enjoyed while also optimizing its SEO ranking.

There is no reason to fault star-screenwriter-director Vardalos for wanting to extend the success of her sleeper megahit, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” which was released in 2002. Who wouldn’t want to take the overworked ethnic-family jokes, tired cultural references, and forced zaniness from the Chicago suburbs and bring them to the picturesque homeland of the characters? Especially considering that even the “Mamma Mia!” movies capitalized on the Mediterranean beauty, despite not featuring Greek characters, and the fact that ABBA is Swedish (and the sequel was filmed in Croatia, not Greece!).

However, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” falls short compared to the meticulously crafted “Mamma Mia!” musicals. This film feels like a soggy baklava, where the honey has fermented and the dough has lost its recognizable shape. The lackluster sequel in 2016 already proved that the judgmental and clingy Portokalos family were only sitcom cliches, and this film only further showcases their laziness.

The first notable absence is the late Michael Constantine, whose character is represented by a deceased immigrant patriarch’s final wish. He asks his daughter Toula (played by Vardalos) to take his journal back to his home village and share it with three childhood friends. Joining Toula on this journey are her husband Ian (played by the bland John Corbett), college-age daughter Paris (Elena Kampouris), brash brother Nick (Louis Mandylor), and Toula’s aunts Frieda (Maria Vacratsis) and Voula (played once again by the talented Andrea Martin). Cousins Nikki (Gia Carides) and Angelo (Joey Fatone) make an appearance later on, remaining unchanged.

Toula’s widowed mom, Maria, is portrayed by the irrepressible Lainie Kazan, but her role is limited to homebound scenes due to the character’s memory loss. While her descendants lament her condition, you may find yourself wishing for a similar mental escape.
