Fishermen Engaged in Intense Battle with 8-Foot Shark While Pursuing Swordfish

  • A fisherman and his crew grappled with an impressive eight-foot-long mako shark while trying to secure their prized swordfish catch.
  • “Get off my fish! Give me my fish! Give it to me!” exclaimed a crew member in an intriguing Instagram video.
  • The crew finally managed to haul up the swordfish, although a significant portion of its tail had been gnawed off.
  • Sharks aren’t just a concern for beachgoers; fishermen also face challenges when it comes to fending off these creatures and protecting their prized catches.

New Zealand fisherman Tony Walker shared a captivating Instagram video on July 5, showcasing his crew’s encounter with a mako shark while fishing for swordfish in Australia’s Coral Sea.

In the video, one crew member can be heard exclaiming, “Angry Mako!” as they spotted the shark gnawing on their swordfish. They desperately tried to reclaim their catch, yelling, “Get off my fish! Give me my fish! Give it to me!”

The mako shark briefly swam away but returned for a second bite, leading to a tense battle. Despite the shark taking a chunk out of the swordfish’s tail, the crew ultimately succeeded in reeling in their catch.

Walker’s Instagram video quickly went viral, amassing over 21 million views. He revealed that encountering mako sharks while fishing is a common occurrence in the area, with sharks often lurking beneath the boat.

Walker’s experience is not unique among fishermen. In a separate incident, a father and daughter duo had to contend with a great white shark attempting to steal their sea bass catch in New Jersey.

We reached out to representatives for Walker for comment but have not received a response outside of regular business hours.
