A brush fire erupted on the east end of Moreno Valley on Friday, scorching 14 acres and coming dangerously close to multiple homes before it was fully contained.
The fire was first reported at around 10 a.m. in the vicinity of Lantz Lane and Ironwood Avenue, as stated by the Riverside County Fire Department.
Emergency crews from various agencies, including the county, Hemet Fire Department, and Riverside Fire Department, swiftly responded to the scene. Initially, the flames were slowly spreading through medium brush, but within a short time, the winds picked up, accelerating the fire towards residential areas.
To combat the blaze, two Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters were deployed, assisting the ground crews in creating preliminary containment lines.
Unfortunately, one firefighter suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries and was transported to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment.
The fire’s progress was halted by 11:55 a.m. and complete containment was achieved around 4 p.m.
Although the homes were not in immediate danger, a precautionary evacuation warning was issued for scattered properties located north of Ironwood, south of Locust Avenue, east of Trust Way, and west of Moreno Beach Drive.
This warning was later canceled after two hours.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
