Final Tour Wraps Up in San Francisco for Dead & Company

Dead & Company, the band formed by former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, concluded their final tour with an unforgettable three-night event at San Francisco’s Oracle Park. The band, which was established in 2015, delivered an exceptional two-set performance over the weekend, attracting devoted fans known as Deadheads who eagerly gathered at the baseball stadium to revel in the iconic Grateful Dead songs and covers.

These sold-out shows mark the end of a significant chapter for the Grateful Dead, a band that has seen its members reunite and form various touring projects since the passing of lead guitarist and songwriter Jerry Garcia in 1995. Dead & Company, the latest touring group of Grateful Dead members, notably showcased the exceptional guitar skills and vocals of John Mayer. Despite the absence of founding Dead member Bill Kreutzmann, who withdrew from the tour in April due to a “shift in creative direction,” the band delivered a remarkable performance.

During Sunday’s show, the band mesmerized the audience with timeless hits like “Bertha,” “Althea,” and “Loser” in the first set, before exclusively focusing on Grateful Dead material for the second set, as reported by Ultimate Classic Rock.

Outside the venue, fans gathered on Shakedown Street before the concert, a homage to the Dead’s 1978 song, engaging in the vibrant atmosphere where they shared food, acquired handcrafted items, swapped stories of fateful encounters with friends made at previous shows, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Even beyond the Bay Area, the Empire State Building showed its support by illuminating “tie dye” colors on Sunday evening, paying tribute to the band’s final stop on their last tour.

Deadheads who attended the event at Oracle Park this weekend expressed a deep connection to the band, assuring San Francisco’s Fox affiliate station that the band has continued to grow, change, and evolve in their music. Joel Selvin, a former pop music critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, described it as a never-ending party that people can’t resist being a part of.
