This is the second time Urías has been arrested for domestic violence in the past four years. He was taken into custody around 11 p.m. and booked into jail at 1 a.m. after posting $50,000 bond. His court date is scheduled for September 27.
The Dodgers released a statement acknowledging the incident and stated that Urías will not be accompanying the team while they gather all the facts. They declined to comment further at this time. Major League Baseball (MLB) is also investigating the case, and it is common for the league to place a player charged with domestic violence on administrative leave during the investigation.
In 2019, when Urías was previously arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, MLB intervened with a 20-game suspension under its domestic violence policy, despite no formal charges being filed. No MLB player has been suspended twice for violating this policy.
Urías, a Mexican-born left-hander, has a 4.60 ERA over 21 starts with the Dodgers in 2023. However, in 2022, he held the best ERA in the league at 2.16 over 31 starts and 175 innings. Throughout his career, Urías has a 3.11 ERA over 158 games, including 122 starts and 117.1 innings, with a total record of 60-25 in the regular season.
Urías is set to become a free agent after this year.
