Federal authorities probing power steering problem in older Ram 1500 trucks

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently investigating over 1.1 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to potential power steering failure that can increase the risk of accidents.

This investigation specifically focuses on Ram 1500s produced between 2013 and 2016, as stated in the NHTSA’s documents. According to the agency, there have been 380 reports from drivers claiming complete or intermittent power steering failures. Although three crashes have been reported, no injuries have been documented.

The documents indicate that “the failure allegations occur at various speeds with limited detectability to the driver.”
