FBI Appeals for Information from Possible Victims of Individual from Klamath Falls, Oregon

A man in Portland, Oregon, who masqueraded as an undercover police officer, committed a horrifying act by abducting a woman in Seattle, driving her hundreds of miles to his home, and imprisoning her in a crude cinderblock cell. However, the woman managed to escape by breaking open the door and injuring her hands in the process. The FBI has revealed that the man is now facing federal charges, and they suspect him of being involved in sexual assaults in multiple states. The assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s Portland field office commended the woman for her quick thinking and determination to survive, which potentially saved others from enduring a similar ordeal.

After fleeing his home in Klamath Falls, the man, identified as Negasi Zuberi, was apprehended by local authorities in Reno, Nevada. He is currently charged with interstate kidnapping and does not have legal representation listed in court records.

The FBI has disclosed that Zuberi used various aliases and has resided in several states since 2016, including California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Alabama, and Nevada.

According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Oregon, Zuberi coerced a woman, known as Adult Victim 1, into engaging in prostitution along Seattle’s Aurora Avenue, an area notorious for such activities. He then claimed to be an undercover officer, displaying a badge, brandishing a stun gun, and restraining her with handcuffs and leg irons before transporting her in his vehicle.

During the journey to Oregon, Zuberi sexually assaulted the woman multiple times, as documented in the complaint.

Once they arrived at his residence, approximately seven hours after the initial encounter in Seattle, Zuberi confined the woman in a makeshift cell he had constructed in his garage. This cell, composed of cinderblocks with a metal bar door, served as her prison while he claimed to be occupied with paperwork, according to the complaint.

The woman, realizing the dire consequences if she didn’t take action, mustered the courage to escape. She forcefully banged on the cell door until she managed to break it open, sustaining injuries along the way. Spotting Zuberi’s parked vehicle in the garage, she accessed it, seized his firearm, and made her escape, leaving traces of blood on a wooden fence she climbed over. A passing driver provided assistance by alerting emergency services.
