Comedy Unleashed, the organizers of the show, have made an intriguing announcement. They have decided to keep the details of their third venue a secret until the beginning of Thursday night’s performance.
As per reports, only ticket holders have received an email revealing the location where the show will take place.
Initially, the show was supposed to be held at Leith Arches, but they backed out and canceled Linehan’s booking, claiming that his views were not in line with their values.
Linehan, known for his work on TV sitcoms The IT Crowd and Black Books, has been a vocal critic of the trans rights movement.
Leith Arches justified their decision stating, “We work closely with the LGBT+ community, which forms a significant part of our revenue. Hosting this show would have had a negative impact on our future bookings.”
Comedy Unleashed managed to secure a new venue to host Linehan’s performance, but even that location has decided to cancel the show.
Despite facing these setbacks, Comedy Unleashed has announced on X: “Our original replacement venue has cancelled on us too, but the show will go on tonight at 7:30! Ticket holders have already received an email with the new location details.”
Linehan expressed his disappointment over the cancellations and mentioned that he might consider legal action against Leith Arches if they refuse to reinstate his gig.
Comedian Andrew Doyle, who is scheduled to perform with Linehan at another Comedy Unleashed show in London, criticized the cancellation and urged the comedy industry to support free expression in the arts.
In response to the controversy, Leith Arches clarified that their decision was not influenced by online activists but by their regular community who utilize the space frequently.
